What are retroactive adjustments to the PCP capitation payment?
Monthly capitation payments are paid in advance at the beginning of every month. Due to membership fluctuations throughout the month, it is often necessary to adjust payments retroactively. These adjustments are made on the following months capitation payment. For example, if Dr. Jones is paid for 100 members at the beginning of January but loses 4 members throughout the month of January, the February s capitation payment would show the payment adjustment for the lost members based on their date of termination.Similarly, if 4 members were added to the doctors panel, additions would need to be recognized in the next months payment.
