What are renewables?
Renewable energy is generated from resources that are naturally replenished in a relatively short period of time. It can be generated through sunlight, wind, water, biomass (plant and animal waste) and geothermal heat. For example, you’ve probably seen giant wind turbines either in person or on TV. They convert the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy and then into electricity—all without emitting an ounce of greenhouse gas. As America’s appetite for electricity grows, it’s critical to encourage the development of renewable energy. We can be sure that the low- or zero-emission technologies built around renewables will play an increasingly larger role in meeting the demands of the future. Many states have already passed legislation that requires a certain percentage of power production to come from renewable sources within the next few years. In fact, the U.S. may pass a national renewable portfolio standard requiring a substantial portion of the U.S. electricity mix to come fr
