Computing is changing and improving so quickly that we expect students will see several new technologies made available during their academic careers; however, the following specs should support current needs. Note that most new computers will exceed these recommendations, so get as much RAM, storage, and speed as your budget allows if you are buying a new computer. • At least 1 GB (gigabyte) of RAM (random access memory) • At least 160 GB (gigabytes) of available hard disk space • CD or DVD drive, preferably with write capability • Intel Xeon, Core 2 Duo, or later class processor for PC; Intel processor for Macintosh • Operating System: Windows XP, Vista, or 7 for PC; Mac OS X (10.5.8 or higher) for Macintosh • Wireless capabilities such as WiFi or Airport.
