What are reasons why my Federal Taxes are under review?
I am sure the review is due to the addition of your niece for the first time. Is it possible someone else claimed her as well? That could cause the review. There are many other possibilities that could cause a review – ie. your w-2 info doesn’t match, your interest info was reported wrong, or you forgot to list income that was reported on a 1099, or reported it but in the wrong area, These reasons do not mean you will get a line by line audit. Wait for your letter and follow the instructions they give! You could also call the IRS back to try and get additional information! I was supposedly going to be audited a few years ago and the mistake was theirs so after talking to the IRS they fixed the problem and I was no longer “flagged”.
