What are public domain and “Creative Commons” materials?
Materials in the public domain may be used without permission. The two largest public domain categories are materials developed by the U.S. Government and materials whose copyright has expired. Creative Commons materials may be used without permission, provided that the use complies with the stipulations of any applicable license.
