What Are Psychometrics?
Psychometrics are tools used to measure personality and behavior, in addition to mental abilities. The term is a composite of two words: “psycho” which means personality and metric, meaning “measurement”. Developed by psychologists, and simplified for the corporate world, they are widely used by multinational companies to predict work-related behavior that often contributes to a person’s success, or challenge, in a job. The way that a person performs in a job does not depend solely upon technical ability; personality also plays an important part. Used in conjunction with other measures and assessments, personality measures can provide a useful insight into an individual’s style and how they see themselves in terms of their fundamental characteristics. This information is generally derived from the answers to a series of multiple-choice questions administered using either paper and pencil or a computer.
