Procedural Safeguards are one of the principles of the federal special education law, known as IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). Parents and their children with disabilities have specific rights in the special education process and procedural safeguards protect these rights. These safeguards ensure that families are aware of their rights, that information is shared in a timely manner, and that students receive appropriate services.
