What are Prefolds?
A. Diapers have come a long way since grandma and prefolds are different from the flat squares that grandma and mom used to use. Prefolds are made in layers for absorbancy, with the thickest layer in the middle of the diaper. They will be marked as 2x6x2 which means the side panels have 2 layers while the middle part has 6 layers. These are best for the infant while a 4x8x4 is best for the older child because of the extra layers for absorbency. Prefolds are folded and are fastened with pins or “snappies” or they can lay freestyle in a snapped or velcroed cover.
