What are pre-existing conditions and how do they impact coverage?
Generally, pre-existing means a condition, regardless of its cause, for which medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment was received or recommended during a specified period immediately preceding effective date of coverage. Expenses for a pre-existing condition are not covered for a specified period of time. Under some instances, the pre-existing condition exclusion will be reduced by the number of days a covered person was covered under a qualifying prior coverage. Members should refer to their Certificate of Coverage or plan booklet for the definition of pre-existing.
