What are polyunsaturated fats? Where are they found?
Polyunsaturated fats are one type of fat which are an essential part of a balanced diet. They are found in a variety of foods including vegetable oils, nuts and fish. Polyunsaturated fats include omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) can be found in “oily” fish, such as salmon, tuna, mackerel and trout whereas plant based omega-3 fatty acids (ALA) are found in vegetable oils, such as canola and flaxseed oil, walnuts and flaxseed. Omega-6 sources are found in oils such as soybean, sunflower, cottonseed and corn oil, and soft vegetable oil spreads made with these oils. Soft spreads such as Country Crock® Omega Plus, are made with a blend of nutritious oils such as canola and soybean and are an easy and delicious way to obtain some omega-3 ALA and omega 6 fats in your diet. Country Crock Omega Plus contains 2.5 g monounsaturated fat, 4.5 grams of polyunsaturated fat, 500 mg omega-3 ALA and 3,000 mg omega-6 LA per serving.
