What are plyometric exercises and how effective are they for jump training?
Plyometric exercises are characteristically “explosive” exercises. The main focus of plyometric exercises is to increase power, it could mean upper body for hitting, swinging a bat etc. It could also be for the lower body with sprinting & jumping. These exercises are beneficial for those athletes whose sports require short bursts of speed & power such as(but not limited to): Hockey, Football and Track & Field. In contrast, plyometric exercises can help, but are not as important to sports such as long distance running, soccer & cycling whose main focus should be endurance training. I’m actually speculating the meaning of jump training, is it a form of training or are you training to jump, if the long or high jump is your sport, there is nothing better for you than plyometric exercises, you need to introduce this form of training pronto!
