What are Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris?
PRP or Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris is a skin disorder which is rare and chronic; this appears all of a sudden. The Latin word pityriasis indicates severe flaking whereas the Latin word rubra means reddish orange. Hence, this disorder of the skin results in flaking red orange patches on your skin. In addition, there will be itching that is very uncomfortable, skin thickening on your feet/ hands and thick bumps around your hair follicles. People mistake Pityriasis rubra pilaris as psoriasis. What causes PRP? The reasons for occurrence of PRP are not known. This is neither an infection nor contagious and hence other people won’t get affected. This normally affects people who are more than 40 years; however, some children could also be affected. At times it is triggered by infections/ minor rashes due to burns.
