What are pH Probes?
A pH probe is a thin tube that is placed through the nose into the esophagus. The tube is connected to recorder to document acid refluxing into the esophagus. Reasons for the Procedure • Evaluate a patient with normal endoscopic findings and reflux symptoms refractory to therapy. • Document reflux in an EGD negative patient being considered for antireflux surgery. • Evaluate patients after antireflux surgery that are suspected of having ongoing abnormal reflux. • Detect reflux in patients with chest pain after cardiac evaluation. • Evaluate suspected ENT manifestations of reflux. • Evaluate suspected pulmonary manifestations of reflux, e.g. Adult-onset asthma. Your physician will inform you if should withhold or continue your acid suppressive medication.
