What are PFTs?
PFTs or Pulmonary Function Tests are used to diagnose and monitor lung diseases such as asthma in children 5 years and above. It is a painless maneuver that involves blowing into a machine as quickly as possible and comparing these data to normal values in other children. Numerous professional organizations like the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the American Thoracic Society have published guidelines on the use of PFTs in children.
