Humans are the key piece in the tiger conservation puzzle. Because people live in the tiger’s range, and not the other way around, the human population has to realize its responsibility to cohabit with the tiger. This is not an easy task, either intellectually or practically, and yet if humans do not come up with ways to share the land with tigers and its prey, the answer to the question you ask — can tigers survive in the wild in Russia — is probably no. The tiger is backed up against a wall. It has nowhere else to go in the wild. It has lost almost all its historical range in today’s China. It is loath to survive in lowland plains with high human densities.
