What are PDF files, and how can I read them?
PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It is a format invented by Adobe Systems, and is intended to produce documents that look the same on-screen as printed (unlike HTML for web pages, whose layout may change when viewed on different screens or printed out. PDF documents can be produced from a wide variety of word processors. There are several applications for reading PDF files (and printing them out).
The resources on Teaching Ideas are in a variety of formats. Some of these are in PDF format. To read PDF files, you need some software called Abobe Acrobat Reader. It is free and can be obtained from many computer magazine coverdisks, or downloaded from the Internet at http://www.adobe.com/acrobat.
