What are paradigms and paradigm shifts?
Simply, a paradigm is a way of looking at things. In 1962, Thomas Kuhn wrote The Structure of Scientific Revolution[1], in which he introduced the term “paradigm shift”, for “revolutionary” changes of thought, particularly that of innovation. Kuhn argues that agents of change drive innovation through evolutionary stages where “one conceptual world view is replaced by another”. Joel Barker (1992) is credited with popularizing the importance of understanding paradigm shifts in business. He believed that paradigms set boundaries and guide behavior within those boundaries that will lead to success.
