What are Overviews?
Some folks call Overview data “headers”; this is a misnomer. Headers are actually the lines of information at the top of each post, ie, Path:, From:, Date: etc. Overview data consists of an index of articles in a particular group. This is what is downloaded when you update a newsgroup by checking for new articles. Overview data does include a couple of actual headers, like the Subject: and the Date:. Your newsreader’s index updates itself from the news server’s index via XOVER downloads. • What is included in my stats totals? We count all the article bytes downloaded by your newsreader. This includes article headers for those *downloaded articles only*. We do not include XOVER or overview information in monthly download totals. We also do not count posts or uploads.
