What are other ways to cook a steak besides a grill?
I found that a cast iron skillet works best. I learned this technique from Alton Brown (the smartest chef in the world in my opinion). And don’t worry this method can be used with any thickness of steak (except for fillet mignon perhaps). Pop a cast iron skillet in the oven at 400 degrees. Let it pre-heat for about an hour before cooking to get the skillet piping hot. Prep your steaks by lightly coating both sides with safflower oil (rather than canola or vegetable because safflower oil won’t burn off as quickly as the rest causing so your steaks won’t stick to the pan as badly). Sprinkle kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper on both sides. Set your timer and cook the steaks between 2-4 minutes on each side depending on how well you want your steaks cooked.
