What are other Australian state governments doing to reduce their environmental impacts?
All states and territories in Australia have initiatives in place to improve the environmental performance of government operations covering a range of environmental issues. These include mandatory requirements and a broad spectrum of voluntary policies and undertakings. Most jurisdictions have adopted environmental or sustainability reporting requirements, ranging from general reporting in annual reports to requirements for reports using agreed indicators and against declared targets. Victoria is the only state government in which comprehensive management and reporting of core departments’ environmental impacts is mandatory.
