What Are Olfactory Receptors?
Olfactory receptors are the receptor related with the sense of smell. These receptors detect the odor molecule. After detection the signal is transmitted through the olfactory receptor neuron to the brain where it is interpreted. In vertebrates these are present in the olfactory sensory neurons. They show affinity for a wide range of odor molecules. There are a large number of olfactory receptors that make the discrimination among things easy. A sperm possesses olfactory receptors that are involved in the chemotaxis by which it reaches the egg cell.
