What Are Oil Pastels?
Oil pastels are used for drawing and painting. They combine the best properties of crayons (smooth, easy application) and pastels (bright, pure colors). Oil pastels are a fairly new art medium originally invented for children, but they have been gradually adopted by serious artists because of the many ways they can be used. They are made of pigment combined with an oil and wax binder that never totally hardens. For this reason, artworks made with oil pastels should be protected, as they are not easily cleaned.
