What are Notification Services?
Notification services are a platform to build data driven applications, which send notifications to its users. A notification could be defined as any message that reaches the targeted user; it could either be a e-mail, SMS or text message, or page. The generated notifications would be personalized for the targeted user. The notifications would reflect the preferences of the user and could be send them to various devices such as PDA, Windows Messenger. Notification Services was earlier released as Notification Services 2.0 for SQL Server 2000. One of the typical applications that would need such a feature would be a stock ticker application, where a user can register for notification when the script in increases by a certain amount in a day.
