What are Normal Lab Values?
Lab values are determined by where they fall on a scale which measures low, normal and high values for any one test. The scale or reference range differs from one testing lab to another. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) publishes reference ranges for a variety of blood tests. NIH’s reference range for red blood count is 3.93-5.6; for white blood count 3.3-8.7; for hemoglobin 12.6-16.1; for hematocrit 38-47 and for platelets 147-347.
