What are Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatories?
A8. Tablets like ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac or indomethacin. Newer tablets include celecoxib and etoricoxib. These tablets help the symptoms of pain and stiffness on the day you take them; there is no evidence they slow down the progression of the disease itself. All carry some risk of peptic ulcers (less common with the newer tablets), and it is likely that all slightly increase the risk of heart attacks with prolonged use, so your doctors will need to advise if you have other risk factors for your heart.
