What are nightly builds?
Mozilla and Firefox use nightly builds and smoketests to ensure that the code is always working well enough for developers to test new code. Benefits of using nightly builds: • New features and bug fixes. There have been many improvements since Firefox 1.0. • More useful testing. Testing Firefox is one of the easiest ways to contribute to the Firefox project. When you use nightlies, you’re testing newer code, so bugs you find are less likely to have already been fixed. Please report or vote for bugs you encounter, and submit a Talkback report if Firefox crashes. • Faster security fixes. Sometimes fixes for security holes are checked into the trunk but there isn’t an immediate security-fix release based on the previous release. Downsides of using nightly builds: • Regressions.
