What are NBCC and CACREP?
NBCC stands for the National Board of Certified Counselors. Students graduating from a CACREP accredited program may take the National Counselor Exam (NCE) in their last semester of graduate study. If they pass the exam they become nationally certified counselors without the additional 2000 hours of supervision required of graduates from non- CACREP accredited institutions. CACREP stands for the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. CACREP is the national accrediting body for programs in Counselor Education and more information can be attained from http://soeweb.syr.edu/chs/.
