What are my statutory rights for pre booked beauty treatments?
It is not unreasonable for the salon to require you to be there when you said, although some flexibility would be appropriate. If they have other clients, they have a contract with them which they need to keep, meaning they cannot wait for you indefinitely. If you have booked a series of treatments, why not ask that they refund half the fee as a gesture of goodwill? I think (but the law may take a different view) that if you have paid in advance for a whole lot of treatment, they ought to refund most of what you have paid, provided they can sell the slots you have booked but will not now need. On the other hand if you got a big discount for a ‘package deal’ you may get nothing back. It’s a bit like booking travel tickets. For a single journey on a specified train the fare is often quite low, but non-refundable. If you want the flexibility of changing it you pay more.
