Federal Award Provitions Under the terms of the federal award, the amount of sick leave an employee may take depends on how long he or she has worked for an employer and accrues as follows: Length of time worked for the employer Rate of accrual of paid sick leave . (days) Less than 1 month 0 1 month to less than 3 months 2 3 months to less than 6 months 4 6 months to less than 12 months 9 Each year thereafter 10 An employee must notify their employer within 72 hours of the commencement of their absence unless he or she has a good reason for not doing so. In respect of each period of sick leave exceeding 2 days the employee must if required by the employer establish by the production of a medical certificate or statutory declaration that they were unable to work because of injury or personal illness.
