What are my rights returning faulty good bought online?
Distance Selling Regulations apply to all mail, phone and online ordering. They give you an absolute right to return any goods ordered in this way. You have 7 working days, although individual sellers may give longer, to inform the seller that you will be returning the goods. Technically you have to do this in writing but most sellers will accept a phone call. Generally you will be entitled to the cost of the goods back but you will have to pay for the postage both ways. But, these rights are in addition to the normal Sale of Goods Act rights which continue to apply. Under the SoGA if goods are not fit for purpose, misdescribed or not of satisfactory quality (ie are faulty) you have various rights. If the goods are faulty when received you have an absolute right to your choice of a full refund or a replacement. If you choose a refund you must get back all the postage and other additional costs. If you choose a replacement you cannot be asked to pay anything in addition to the original
