What are my rights as an unwed father in Colorado?
It is difficult to say with any certainty what rights an unwed father has prior to the determination of parental responsibility. This is one of the reasons why the father should submit to a paternity test after the child is born. Since Colorado favors the involvement of both parents, the Court usually gives each parent at least some parenting time. Parents have constitutional rights to determine how their children are raised, but in Colorado those rights are balanced against the best interests of the child.
