What are my rights as a vegan when I am fed non-vegan meals at uni?
Q Dear Uncle Dave, I am writing to inquire about my rights as a vegan. I live at a university college in Melbourne, Australia. I have informed the college about my lifestyle as a vegan, and so have my friends, and they have told us that they can cater for us. However, after many dubious meals, and unsuccessful requests to see ingredient lists of the food I have been given, I have taken matters into my own hands. I have sought through the dumpster after an evening’s meal which I was assured was vegan, and found the ingredients of which we were fed contained “skim milk powder”. I am wondering if I have any legal rights in this matter; that if I cause a fuss I have a legal foundation to stand upon. I hope that my actions here will result in a brighter future for vegans who attend my college; not misinformation and lies. Thankyou for your time. A I am sorry to hear that you have had such bad experiences with the catering at uni. I am no legal expert, so it is difficult for me to advise you
