What are my restrictions after lumbar spine surgery?

You have no walking restrictions. We encourage you to walk and do stairs as much as possible immediately after surgery. For the first three weeks after surgery, you are not allowed to lift anything over 10 lbs. Three to six weeks after surgery, you are not allowed to lift anything over 30 lbs. As of six weeks after surgery, you generally have no lifting restrictions. You may NOT take a tub bath, swim in a pool, or soak in a hot tub until given permission to do so by your physician. You may shower 24 hours after your drain is removed. If you have surgery with other doctors, please discuss post-operative restrictions with them.
