What are my responsibilities as the owner of a landmark property?
You must apply to the Historic Preservation Commission to alter, move or demolish a structure. Apply to the Commission if you plan major exterior alterations, repairs, rehabilitation, reconstruction or new construction. If you plan only simple repairs, routine maintenance, landscaping, low fences or walls, or painting, simply contact the Community and Strategic Planning Division to determine if an application (alteration certificate) to the Commission is required. There is no obligation to restore or rehabilitate your property if it is designated as a local landmark.
