What are my options with the cremated remains?
A. Burial of the remains in a cemetery is a common choice. You would have to check with the cemetery to see what there regulations are, but most will allow cremated remains to be buried in existing graves. If you need to buy a grave or more, some cemeteries may have a section just for cremation or may use full size graves with more than one burial allowed. Some may offer above ground entombment in a building called a columbarium or mausoleum where the urn is placed in a niche. Some families will keep the urn at home or may use two or several small urns called keepsakes so more than one person may have their own treasured memory. You can also have burial or scattering at sea or by air or on land or combine all of the options. One way to find some options that may be unique to your area is to check with your local Funeral Director or Cremation Society.
