What are my obligations as a tenant?
In general, your obligations are set out in the terms of your contract, so read your contract carefully. You will note most contracts use the phrase acting in a “Tenant-like manner”. This means you are responsible and should carry out the smaller tasks around the house such as replacing the electric light bulbs when they break, unblocking the sink when blocked with waste, cleaning the windows when necessary. Other obligations include: • Not causing undue damage to the house. If you do, through misuse or heavy handedness, you will be responsible for the repairs. • To dispose of your rubbish correctly.
