Definitions Profit: a monetary or in-kind benefit received as remuneration for a service or product School Based: The activity takes place on school property, property leased by the school or property made available for the activity. Enterprise: An activity that seeks to emulate a business model of operation and produces a service or product. Client/beneficiary: A client might be a member of the public, a business or charity who would normally purchase the product or service from another business within the community Examples: • operating a café or shop open to the public and/or to teachers and students of a school, • producing furniture for a third party • producing a website for a third party Union and Industry Support Before establishing a school based enterprise a school must seek written approval from the relevant union.
