What are my chances of having identical / fraternal twins?
Identical twins are a random event so you have the same chance as everyone else; about one in 250. Fraternal twins run in families. However it has to run in your family not the father’s (as it is the tendency to release two eggs at once) so who every you marry your chances will be the same as everyone else. There are however other factors that increase the chances of having fraternal twins. being over thirty-five increases the chances as does getting pregnant immediately after coming off the contraceptive pill; not sure why.
Twins are something that run on the maternal side. The paternal side has NO bearing whatsoever. So if you have twins on your side (obviously) I know your chances go up considerably. And fraternal twins is not genetic either, that is just an occurence that happens when two eggs are released kind of like a fluke. Identical is where genetics comes in. Good luck!
