What are my chances of getting a Teaching or Research Assistantship?
There are a limited number of TA/RA positions in the Economics Department therefore the competition is high. Preference in the award of Teaching Assistantships is given to students in their first three years of study. Teaching assistantships are awarded on the basis of merit and potential teaching ability. Research assistantship positions, if available are not usually awarded to first year students. Typically there are about 10 students in an entering class, of which only 3 receive TAs. Because the competition depends on the applicant pool each year, it’s not possible for us to comment on your probability of being accepted or being awarded a TA.
