What are more sociable Asian countries?
Agreed with Belie. I’m Caucasian and was living in Japan. I probably had a stranger approach me every second day at least to have a random conversation in Japanese or English about where I was from and what I was doing in Japan and about anyone they knew who was learning English or overseas at the time. I found it very easy to make friends because of this. Totally hit it off with quite a few people whether I met them at school, local shops or even on the train. They do have a strong disliking for being considered gaijin (outsiders, word not just used for foreigners) but that generally won’t make people any less likely to speak with you just because you ARE gaijin. We don’t all fit so comfortably into stereotypes.. It’s like asking which English speaking country is more sociable: Britain, America or Australia? What stereotypes do we have there? Prudes?
