What are Monogenetic Trematodes?
Monogenetic trematodes are ectoparasitic flatworms commonly observed in Gouramis, but are also found in other freshwater fish species. Symptoms of this parasitic infection have resulted in its common name, the Gourami Rock. Fish are often seen rocking back and forth as well as rubbing against objects found in the tank. Since these trematodes are monogenetic, they only need one host for survival. Fortunately, there are common and effective treatments for monogenetic trematodes, especially prophylactic.
