What are monkey bars?
Also referred to as horizontal or vertical bars, monkey bars come in a variety of shapes and sizes and often form part of jungle gyms. Jungle gyms are climbing structures with a combination of apparatus such as swings, monkey bars, platforms, slides, ropes, ladders, tires etc. used to provide challenging and interesting play areas for children. Jungle gyms replaced the original steel construction of horizontal and vertical tubular rods to provide more than just climbing activities. The present day structures are now mostly part of larger jungle systems. Although you will still be able to purchase stand alone three dimensional structures, jungle gyms and monkey bars are now often used to describe the same items.
