What are mods, and how do I use them?
Mods are free, fan-created scenarios, modified maps, etc. These mods range from making existing maps more realistic or more action oriented to creating battles from entirely different eras (e.g. modern warfare, civil war, science fiction). Battlefield 1942 Files has a collection of mods; check their main page for the top ten most popular downloads. I have also collected together some mod information and links. BF42.com supports forums and lists a number of tools for making mods. The 1.2 patch changed the directories for game data, so you should check that any mod you are interested in works with 1.2. Once you download a mod, install it. Some are easy as pie to install, others you have to work at a little bit. In general, a mod gets installed in a subdirectory off of C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods, e.g. the directory C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\Desert_Combat is where the Desert Combat mod is installed.
