When planning permission is given for building work there is a set of plans which are the ‘approved drawings’. Sometimes during the course of building work people change their minds about some part of the development. If this has an effect on the outside of the building (e.g. different window positions, roof shape, etc.) then we need to be consulted because what is being built no longer matches the approved drawings. If we consider the change to be minor then we can often agreed this by letter once we have received a drawing showing the changes. Sometimes the changes are not considered minor (especially if the extension is bigger or nearer a neighbour) and we will then suggest a new planning permission is needed. If you are told this then it is best to stop building work until you have a new planning permission. Processing a planning application can take up to 8 weeks because of the need to consult with your neighbours and to consider the effects of the ‘new’ development.
