What are mini-discs useful for?
They are very valuable, affordable practice and rehearsal tools. I recommend that all musicians record and review some portion of their daily practicing. Rehearsal recording is also extremely valuable to chamber musicians. Reviewing tape is often one of the most valuable experiences you can give yourself to advance quickly. These days, most people have some form of laptop computer at their disposal. With some basic recording software (Sony Sound Forge, Pro Tools Free, etc.) and a basic stereo microphone (see question 16), you can make a much better recording on your laptop hard drive than you can on MD without having to purchase media.
