What are Mentors?
Mentors prepare micro-lessons for aspiring writers. Micro-lessons are currently offered in the following four formats: – Tutorials: 250 to 500-word articles that provide a tutorial on a specific topic. Topics can include writing strategies such as how to beat writer’s block, how to mine one’s material for the most fresh, pertinent ideas, or how to brainstorm for unique ideas. They can also be tutorials on elements of fiction such as setting, character arcs, or integrating theme with plot. Anything you think can provide aspiring writers with the help they need can serve as a tutorial. – Craft essays: 750 to 1,000-word essays that illustrate a specific element of fiction as seen in one of the stories published in Echo Ink Review. – Interactive Tutorials: mentors instruct “micro-classes” for a group of 10 to 25 students. Mentors develop “micro-class” around a specific topic, which can be any element of fiction. Once the micro-class is approved, it’s made available to prospective students.
