What are meerkat dark eye masks used for?
The eye masks are like sunglasses and absorb reflective light and enhance vision. Meerkats often spend time staring directly at the sun, warming their bellies. They would go blind without their eye mask adaptations. Many predators also attack their prey from the direction of the sun, the eye mask enables meerkats to see predators doing this easily!
