What are MDAs and IDAs?
A. Marriage Development Accounts (or MDAs) are a savings program to help married and engaged couples living in the District eliminate debt, increase their savings and build wealth through long-term investment. Couples with combined earnings of $50,000 or less may be eligible to open a Marriage Development Account (MDA) with CAAB and receive a 3:1 match on up to $3,000 of personal savings, for a total of $12,000 that can be invested in education or job training, a small business, or purchase of a first home in the District of Columbia. Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) are a similar matched savings program for single individuals living in the District of Columbia, where they receive a 3:1 match on up to $1,000 of personal savings, for a total of $4,000 that can be invested in education or job training, a small business, or purchase of a first home.
