What are “long sessions” and “short sessions” of the Indiana State Legislature?
Before 1972, the Indiana General Assembly met every other year. But special sessions were often called in the years when no regular session was scheduled. In fact, the issues brought before our legislature eventually became so complex and in need of immediate attention that the Indiana General Assembly began meeting once every year. Even with these annual sessions, special sessions are still required occasionally.
