What are lodges or teahouses actually like?
On the well trekked trails they are almost all pretty excellent. In some of the less trekked areas they lack the polish that for instance the lodges of the Kali Gandaki valley (on the Muktinath trail) all seem to have. But that is part of their charm and you may even prefer them to some of the slicker operations. At the end of the day all you really want is a meal and a bed for the night. This is how it works. You arrive at a village and check out any of the lodges on offer. The final choice is usually based on something as logical as “well it looks nice” and to be honest there is very little to choose between them when it comes down to it. If we take an area like the Annapurna region (although it applies equally to Everest and Langtang) then you will notice that all the menus are the same and all the prices are the same at each lodge in a district.
